THE AUTHOR

The jacket of the book provides this biography for me: “David Bledin has cubicle-hopped in both investment banking and economic consulting. BANK is his first novel.” That’s me, encapsulated in two sentences. The only thing more succinct is an epitaph on a gravestone.

I actually like the brevity, to be honest. I don’t really want you to know too much about me, not really. I have far too many skeletons in my closet. I like maintaining the aura of an international man of mystery. I even have the velour cape stashed away somewhere.

But I did want to make an important distinction:

I am Dave. I am not Mumbles. While Mumbles always mumbles (hence the nickname), I can at times be quite articulate. While Mumbles eventually consummates his relationship with the woman he fancies throughout several elevator rides, this woman’s real life incarnation never gave me the time of day.

We both have stick-out ears, though, as evidenced by the picture at left.
